Who is... Jim Masters
Jim is a singer/songwriter who plays guitar, mandolin, and bass. Some say Jim’s voice is reminiscent of Gordon Lightfoot, one of Jim’s musical heroes.
Currently you can find Jim playing shows at many different venues throughout southeastern Virginia and North Carolina. He has played Restaurants/Bars, Festivals, Military Bases, Golf courses, Wineries and private parties. Jim’s shows are packed full of favorite covers from Classic Rock, Pop, Blues, Americana, New/prime Country, Folk and R&B. In 2013 Jim released his debut CD “Next Train”, a compilation of Jim’s original songs. So of course there will be a few of Jim’s originals in his shows. His approach to writing a song is simple, "Just write about life". Jim has many musical heroes: The Beatles, The Eagles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bob Seger, Merle Haggard, Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Crosby Stills Nash, John Prine, John Hyatt, Steve Miller, Billy Joel, Jim Croce, America, Gordon Lightfoot, Tim O’Brien, Darrel Scott, Jimmy Webb, Lester Flat and Earle Scruggs, Bill Monroe, and the list goes on!
Jim's musical career began at an early age. Music in his home was mainly country and Bluegrass. Like many teenagers Jim gravitated to pop and rock of the day. Playing mostly at family gatherings and occasional garage bands. Over the years Jim developed a broad range of musical interests. The one thing that has been a constant in his life is his love of the acoustic guitar.
Jim has been on this musical journey for a while now and he is a product of all he has experienced thus far. Therefore, his music is a culmination of those wonderful sounds he listened to through the years. Jim has been extremely fortunate to have performed in many local bands with some of Hampton Roads most talented musicians and is very grateful for all he has experienced.
